No account
There's nothing to sign up for and nothing tied to your identity. AetherCache has no login.
No telemetry
The app doesn't phone home. No analytics, no crash reporting, no usage tracking. You can choose to relay data through feedback including screenshots and capture logs to help us look into issues, but it's entirely at your option every time, and that data is scrubbed of PII on your device before it's sent.
Sync stays in your storage
Cross-device sync reads and writes a file in a cloud folder you already control. We never see it.
No AetherCache servers
There is no AetherCache backend holding collection data. There's nothing centralized to breach.
What stays on your device
Your entire collection — every card, note, label, and scan history entry — lives in a local database on your machine. It is never uploaded anywhere by AetherCache itself. Scanned card images are discarded immediately after matching unless you explicitly turn on "Save Physical Scans" in Settings.
What optional sync actually does
If you turn on cross-device sync, AetherCache writes a plain file somewhere you control — a local folder you pick yourself, or an account you connect with Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive. For those three providers, AetherCache manages its own folder within the account you connect (for reliability, you don't choose the exact folder); for a local folder, you pick the path directly. Either way, AetherCache connects straight to the provider's own servers using their sign-in flow, not through a desktop sync client — there's no AetherCache account involved, and the connection is governed by that provider's own privacy policy, not ours. The provider sees that AetherCache is making API calls to read and write that one file, the same kind of access any app you connect sees, and nothing more revealing than that — certainly less than what the provider already knows about your account from everything else you do with it. AetherCache has no servers of its own in this path; your device talks directly to the provider you picked, and we never see the file or its contents.
Card data & images
AetherCache checks on every launch whether Scryfall's public card database (names, sets, rules text) needs updating, and syncs it to your device when it does — that copy stays local like the rest of your collection, so browsing and card lookups don't need a live request to Scryfall every time. You can also trigger a sync manually from Settings, though it's rarely needed. Card images work differently: they load directly from Scryfall's own servers, not from AetherCache's (we don't have any). AetherCache keeps a short-lived cache of images in memory during a session so scrolling doesn't re-download the same ones, the same way browsing Scryfall's own site would — but that cache isn't kept permanently, and you'll see a placeholder instead of the image if you're offline. Loading an image is a direct request from your device to Scryfall's CDN; see Scryfall's own privacy policy for how they handle that traffic.
